Spotify, the much-loved music streaming app, can be a little bit of pain in the ass sometimes. Users have been requesting for the username changing feature for a long time now and they don’t seem to care about it. All of their replies in the community forum, it that they are looking into it and they don’t have anything planned about it as of yet.
Well, you really cannot change your Spotify username. Spotify has been running a feature request vote for a long time now over here, and they seem to be not very keen on adding the ability to change usernames. The last update as of 03/09/2019 says that they have kept this feature request as ‘Not right now’, by which they mean to say that they have no plans to implement this feature right now but they might think about it in future.
As one user in the Spotify community pointed out, that the way the Spotify system is built and the way mapping of your username to your playlist is done, it will be very hard to change. So maybe that is why Spotify is not interested in changing it, maybe they will sometime later in the future. We can only hope that they introduce this feature soon. Till then these are the only two methods you can use to use a different username –
1. Connect Spotify to Facebook
When you connect your Spotify account to Facebook, your real name on Facebook starts to show up on Spotify instead of your username. So you kind of get rid of your username but if you were to disconnect Facebook from Spotify then your username would start to show up again. Here are the ways in which you can connect your Facebook account to Spotify –
- Open the Spotify app on your desktop or laptop and then open your account settings from the top right corner of the homepage and then find the ‘Connect to Facebook’ button under the social section of the settings and click on the ‘Connect to Facebook’ button.
- Then the Facebook login window will appear, log in with your account and then your Facebook account will be added to Spotify. And your real name or whatever name you have added in your Facebook account, it will start showing in your Spotify account instead of the random numbers username you have.
For Mobile App
- The process is somewhat similar for mobile app users. Open up the Spotify app, then your account settings from the top right corner of your first screen and then look for the ‘Connect to Facebook’ option under the Social section of the settings menu. Then the Facebook login page will appear, enter your credentials and then login with your account. Your Facebook account will be added to your Spotify account and your real name from Facebook should start appearing everywhere on Spotify instead of your username.
2. Create a new account
After the data privacy scandals of Facebook, many people seem to have left Facebook. So you could be one of those people who don’t have a Facebook account because they deleted their account. So what do you do? Well if you really don’t like your current username, then you will have to open a new Spotify account. While opening your Spotify account, when you see the ‘What we should call you?’, that is when you enter your username. Remember to enter the one you want to use permanently, as you can’t change it and if you don’t like it then you will have to open another account again. And for all your music you will have to contact Spotify so that they can move your music from one account to another.
